Welcome to our Clinic News website! I hope you'll find it helpful. If you ever need to contact me, you can reach me by phone at 770-631-3240, extension 238. My email is [email protected].
The 2016-17 school year is off to a great start. We are so proud of our new crop of Warriors! All students (and their parents) need to be aware of the vaccine requirements and the medication policies, so read this page all the way to the bottom. We are so glad to have Mr. Steve Greene as our principal, and he's really doing a great job.
If you have a current 6th grader, you may want to consider that all 7th graders must meet the requirements for vaccination as detailed below. Please, PLEASE-- check your child's record, and don't assume that your child is "fine." Please submit your vaccination certificate (Form 3231) as soon as possible-- they must be in my office by September 6. Last year there were nearly 40 kids that were out of compliance, and many parents admitted they did not check their kids' immunization status because they assumed they were up to date. Please double check your records or call your child's doctor. You can bring the forms on Meet the Teacher night if you like.

September is National Childhood Obesity Month.
One in 3 children in the United States are overweight or obese. Childhood obesity puts kids at risk for health problems that were once seen only in adults, like type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease.
The good news? Childhood obesity can be prevented. Communities, health professionals, and families can work together to create opportunities for kids to eat healthier and get more active.
There are ways parents can help prevent obesity and support healthy growth in children.

- To help ensure that children have a healthy weight, energy balance is important. To achieve this balance, parents can make sure children get adequate sleep, follow recommendations on daily screen time, take part in regular physical activity, and eat the right amount of calories.
- Parents can substitute higher nutrient, lower calorie foods such as fruit and vegetables in place of foods with higher-calorie ingredients, such as added sugars and solid fats.
- Parents can serve children fruit and vegetables at meals and as snacks.
- Parents can ensure access to water as a no-calorie alternative to sugar-sweetened beverages.
- Parents can help children get the recommended amount of physical activity each day by encouraging them to participate in activities that are age-appropriate and enjoyable. There are a variety of age appropriate aerobic, muscle and bone-strengthening activities that kids can do.
Many kids here at Booth struggle with chronic conditions that need daily support.
If your child has a medical condition that requires medication or special treatment at school, then there are Health Care Plans that must be filled out and signed by your child's heath care provider. Every health plan must be renewed at the start of each school year.

If your child has severe allergies that could possibly require the use of an Epi-Pen or prescription allergy medication, or if cafeteria substitutions need to be made, a Severe Allergy Health Care Plan must be on file in the clinic.
If your child has Asthma that might require the use of an inhaler (whether or not they carry their own inhaler), a Severe Allergy Health Care Plan must be on file in the clinic.
If your child has Diabetes and requires monitoring of their blood glucose level, or assistance with insulin administration, a Diabetic Health Care Plan must be on file in the clinic.
If your child suffers from seizures, regardless of the need for emergency medications, a Seizures Health Care Plan must be on file in the clinic.
If your child suffers from another specific condition for which your child's doctor desires a particular treatment, then the Student Specific Care Plan is what we need to have on file.
If your child will need to take medication at any time during the school year, a School Medication Authorization form MUST be on file in the clinic (see below). This includes Midol for menstrual cramps, ibuprofen for headaches, allergy eye drops, Tylenol for muscle cramps-- anything. All medication MUST be submitted in its original container with a clear label; medications sent in with students in ziptop baggies or envelopes cannot be given and will be returned at the end of the day. All medications must be administered through the clinic; students cannot carry their medications and self-medicate. This policy is in place for the protection of all our students. If the medication is prescription in nature, or a supplement or herbal preparation, the form MUST BE SIGNED BY A PHYSICIAN.
